Prompts used: (Tinder Peak) ; ((...)if it were me I'd go to the cavern.  Don't wanna sit around doing nothing, but a dragon would be troublesome to encounter.  (But what if there's a dragon living in a cave... hum.  Well that'd be a bother.  OH WELL LET'S IGNORE THAT POSSIBILITY.))

Nursing your Briarglow, you think to yourself as you stare at your map. Dragons do sound like a bother, but the thought of climbing that volcano is starting to sound more and more like a good idea. You’d better get some heat resistant clothes! You finish your small meal, pack up your things, and leave a few gold coins at the table before departing the tavern.

Your first stop is to the local tailor’s, where you pick out some flame-resistant boots and a long jacket of the same nature. These are both lightly enchanted so that you won’t burst into flames as you near lava. They’d save you from a regular flame, but not from the magical fire a dragon breathes, so you’ll have to keep that in mind. The tailor also reminds you that those boots are not lava proof, and not to go tromping around in firey puddles, as tempting as that thought may sound.

You also buy two more waterskins and another weeks’ worth of rations, dropping an even 140 gold coins on your little shopping excursion. Your last destination before leaving for Tinder Peak is the well at the center of town, where you fill your three waterskins to the brim. These things accomplished, you organize your belongings and then set out towards the volcano.

The trip takes about four days, and soon you’re standing at the base of the volcano. As you climb upwards, you watch as the trees begin to thin out and the dirt and rocks on the ground slowly become ash as you gain more and more altitude. You’ve been climbing since morning, and it’s now late afternoon, and as you stop to rest you notice the trail up ahead splits into two. You take out your map and study it for a minute. You determine that the right path will lead to the very top of Tinder Peak, whereas the left path will branch off somewhat and lead you to what looks like a large lava lake. You look up and notice there’s a good amount of smoke drifting up from the top of the volcano, though you haven’t noticed anything like earthquakes that would indicate an imminent eruption. After some squinting, you can make out some caves on the map towards the peak, and the words ‘Lavan territory’ near the lava lake. You don’t know what a Lavan is, and you’re still not sure what the smoke at the top means.

Either way, daylight is slowly fading and you need to make a decision; should you go right or left?

Shrine of the Elements: Chapter 2
I decided to add the prompts from the previous chapter so that readers could see the comments on the various sites I post this on, but if anyone objects to this I might take it out the next time around, or add them in a different place. Originally I was going to screencap the commands/suggestions, but it's not easy on every site to link to something like that.

Clutching your backpack, you decide to head into the local tavern. There, you can get a drink and try to fish around for any local legends about enchanted items, or maybe hear about someone who can help you. Entering through the doors to the Iron Goblet, you decide to take a seat at an empty table next to others that are occupied.

A pretty barmaid swings by and asks you for your order, to which you respond that you’d like some bread and a Briarglow—a well-known drink in these parts. The barmaid complies and you are soon eating and drinking your fill.

So far, you’re not picking up much in the way of enchanted item-related gossip, but perhaps that’s to be expected. So, you push your plate aside and pull out your map, spreading it out on your table. You take a long, hard look at the terrain, searching for places that might be indicative of treasure. There’s the ocean, as you had thought of before—but without any idea of where to start and no way to breathe, you push that idea aside. Two places catch your attention rather quickly as soon as you give up hope on the ocean; Tinder Peak, which seems to be a volcano to the north, and Gale Cavern, a series of deep, uncharted caves.

Volcanoes, you reason, are likely home to creatures who might stockpile trinkets and gold from adventurers, such as goblins or dragons. …While you don’t have much of a problem with goblins, dragons sound like a much more difficult enemy to face, but if you could find one’s hoard…

On the other hand, caves are usually filled with lost artifacts and metals and minerals, or so you hear. You’d need to pick up a lot of extra light, and you’re not sure how long you’d be gone…you’re not sure all the candles or torches in the world would make a difference while exploring underground.

At this point, you think, you could set off to Tinder Peak, Gale Cavern, or you could keep searching the map and ask around town for other locations that might hold what you’re looking for.

You have finally done it; you have found the Shrine of the Elements. It was right where your trusty map said it was, deep in a forested gorge that splits your country in half. Though others have found it before you, few have managed to get inside—though you personally doubt anyone has ever made it to the mysterious Void in the center of the temple. Now your problem lies in how to get inside.

You place your map inside of your backpack and inspect the stonework on the outside. You see several carvings in the rock. They seem to depict different images inside squares. The first box holds some vertical lines that seem to be emanating from a large half oval at the top. The second box has a humanoid figure surrounded by so many little words scratched into it that you can barely read them, but you manage to make out things like ‘go away’ and ‘turn back’ and ‘never return’. The third box has a terrifying beast and bones carved into it. The fourth box has a drawing that looks like a fountain. In the fifth box there is a drawing of a lock, and in the sixth box there is nothing. Aha, you think, that last one must be depicting the Void.

Besides that, you haven’t a clue.

Scratching the back of your head, you decide to step into the temple. What harm could a look hold? The doors creek open as you push on them, and you hear a thunderous noise as you step inside. The noise is almost deafening and you clamp your hands to your ears as you squint your eyes in the darkness. Suddenly, the inside of the temple is lit up as torches on the wall magically catch fire. Your eyes adjust to the change and you see before you an enormous waterfall. It seems that there’s some sort of light past the water, leading you to believe you’d have to jump through it (as it appears to flow endlessly into a hole in the floor). After inspecting the waterfall however, you reason that if you were to pass through it, you would be crushed or fall to your death. Or both.

Probably both.

You sigh and try to think of how to get into the next part of the temple. It’s clear to you now that the drawings outside are of different challenges you must overcome, and that this waterfall is the first test. Perhaps you should investigate some legends at a local town? You think you’ll need some enchanted items, because there’s no way you can think of to get through these challenges by normal means.

If you’re headed on an adventure, you might want to gear up, too. You sit down on the cool temple floor and open your backpack. Inside it is your map of Eredia, your waterskin, 50 feet worth of hemp rope, a weeks’ worth of rations, three candles with three matches, a dagger, a locket, and 200 gold pieces. You reflect on what you’ve heard along your journey so far as you wander out of the Shrine of the Elements and head towards the nearby town of Greenbrook. You know there are tales of treasure deep in the ocean; vast quantities of magical and enchanted items, and likely water related—but you’re not sure how you’d get there. As a human, you don’t have the means to stay underwater for more than a minute or two.

After several hours of walking, you finally arrive at Greenbrook about midday. It’s a small farming town that supports maybe a hundred people, and it appears to be a post for travelers as it’s outfitted with an inn, a tavern, a blacksmith, and a general store.
